Brandon Mastromartino is the Principal and founder of Mastromartino Sports Marketing (MSM). He is also an assistant professor of experiential marketing at San Diego State University’s L. Robert Payne School of Hospitality and Tourism Management.
He completed his Ph.D. and M.S. in Sport Management from the University of Georgia and his B.A. in Media and Communications from the University of Western Ontario.
Brandon has worked as a consultant in the sports industry for a long time and has a lot of experience in market analysis, sponsorship strategy, user experience (UX), program development, and measuring the marketing and sponsorship return on investment (ROI).
He has done work for sports teams like the Atlanta Braves, the New York Mets, the New York Rangers, the Florida Panthers, the Los Angeles Football Club, and Major League Baseball. He has also done work for companies like Blue Quench, BMW, FanSaves, and Coca Cola.
Dr. Mastromartino’s research focuses on understanding the psychological aspects of sports fans and how socio-cultural factors affect that understanding. Brandon’s research, which is mostly about the psychology of sports fans, focuses on two main areas:
(a) the psychological and sociocultural aspects of sports fan communities, and
(b) how sports fans see themselves.
Brandon Mastromartino has used theories from behavioral science, social economics, social capital, and consumer psychology in his studies.
When he does research, he wants to look at important issues in sport consumer psychology so that he can make long-term marketing plans for sports organizations and move the academic field of sports marketing forward.
He has written more than 20 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, and he is the editor of a new research book called “Digital Marketing in Sports: Global Perspectives,” which will be published soon.
Dr. Mastromartino has taught sports marketing and hospitality/tourism management at the University of Georgia, San Diego State University, Southern Methodist University, and the University of North Texas.
Originally a native of Toronto, Canada, Brandon now lives with his wife Allie and two dogs in San Diego, California.
