“The affiliate industry will continue to consolidate and I expect the competition to become tougher and tougher, which is great, because harsh competition usually brings out the best in all of us.” We met Nikola Teofilovic, General Manager at AskGamblers/Livebetting.se for an interview about affiliate marketing and his approach to it.
Hello Nikola, how are you?
Hi Marius, I’m very well thanks.
How did you come to enter the online gaming space and set up your company? ‘
The first time I got in touch with the iGaming industry was in 2003 but I’ve only been operational in iGaming for the last 9 months as General Manager for Catena Media Serbia and AskGamblers.com.
Can you tell us a little about how your company business is structured?
We are located in Belgrade, Serbia and there are approximately 40 people at the moment running AskGamblers.com. We have amazing teams for Tech, SEO, Content, Account Management and Office, which I’m a part of ☺
With the recent wave of consolidation, mergers and acquisitions of affiliate sites, are you surprised of all of the changes happening in the industry?
No, I’m not surprised. Consolidating the iGaming is an opportunity which has been recognized and acted on by a couple of players in the industry including us at Catena Media.
A number of your competitors have gone down the real money operator route, and tried their hand at white labels. Have you also done this?
No, AskGamblers.com is strictly an affiliate website.
Developing unique content is a key pillar of your strategy. What will be your primary focus on this front over the next 6 months?
Predicting the user needs and expectations which will enable us to continue creating relevant, unique, high quality content. Following all market trends by keeping our ear to the ground.
Which markets do you focus on and do you see any potential in the emerging markets?
We are focusing on the UK, but at the same time we keep looking for new opportunities. So, stay tuned. ☺
How do you find Scandic market and competition?
The Scandic market is pretty mature, but still shows growth and good player values.
How have Google’s algorithm updates affected the way you go about traffic generation, SEO and content at your company?
Since the start, we at AskGamblers.com have been aiming at being pioneers in quality in all areas of iGaming, including traffic generation and content. We always strive to stay at the forefront of the industry by constantly improving the search experience for our users, both on desktop and mobile. Our results regarding traffic and the popularity of our website in general show that we are on the right track and that we should continue to invest in the relationship that we have developed with our users.
Are there any exciting plans in the works that you can tell us about?
We have many exciting things going on, but unfortunately, I can’t talk about them yet. Keep your eyes on AskGamblers.com for we have some exciting surprises coming up soon. ☺
What is the main thing that you’d like SiGMA readers to know about your site?
The AskGamblers.com is absolutely unbiased and we can’t be bought. We were pioneers in our industry introducing our complaint system, through which we have helped players return almost 10 million dollars so far! When you want to gamble, start your journey at AskGamblers.com!
What challenges and opportunities has the move to mobile presented you with?
The opportunities with mobile are huge and we have tried to get as much leverage as we can from the steadily growing mobile traffic. The challenge for us is that we have a lot of quality content on AskGamblers.com which we want our users to be able to find on the mobile version as well.
What do you see as the biggest challenges ahead for your business and the wider affiliate sector in 2017?
The affiliate industry will continue to consolidate and I expect the competition to become tougher and tougher, which is great, because harsh competition usually brings out the best in all of us. The legislation is changing and will continue to change and it will be interesting to see how this will affect our industry.
What two pieces of advice would you give to any new affiliate starting today?
- Find your niche and be unique.
- Focus on execution and professionalism.
Do you play slots and what would you do with 1 million Euro from jackpot winnings?
Only for fun and on rare occasions. However, I do like to play at our largest partners websites from time to time in order to check their quality, new features etc. And regarding the 1 million Euro jackpot, I would invest half and give half to different charities.
Are you ready for Affiliate Grand Slam Bucharest and SiGMA17?
Yes, looking forward to both events big time!
